The National Survey of Innovation measures the level of innovation activity and innovation status in the manufacturing and services sectors of Malaysia for a certain financial year.

National Survey of Innovation has been implemented by MASTIC since 1994. National Survey of Innovation have been published to meet demand by internal and external stakeholders of MASTIC. The latest study conducted by MASTIC in 2021, covering data for financial year 2018 until 2020.

The findings of the study will be used to measure the performance of manufacturing and services sectors of Malaysia and also for international comparison.

 

Objectives of National Survey of Innovation

  1. To obtain the profiles and key information of firms and analyse the data and trends of innovation activities that have been implemented throughout the certain financial year in the manufacturing and services sectors;
  2. To  identify the parameters of innovation and make comparisons of the status of innovation activities in the manufacturing and services sectors with developed and developing countries at global level; and
  3. To recommend improvements for innovation activities in the manufacturing and services sectors as well as suggestions for further studies.

 

 

Scope and Methodology

The scope of this study are firms in manufacturing and services sectors. This study adopted Oslo Manual guidelines published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD, 2018). There are two (2) canvassing of data collection methods which are online and telephone interview.

Definition

Innovation is a new or improved product or process (or combination thereof) that differs significantly from the unit’s previous products or processes.

Current Status Of Recent Study

The upcoming National Survey of Innovation is expected to be published in 2023 for the development of National Survey of Innovation 2021 (Financial year 2018 until 2020).
