Summary
Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) has carried out innovation surveys to measure the level of activity and the status of innovation in manufacturing and services sectors in Malaysia every three years since 1994. The National Innovation Survey 2021 is the ninth edition of the study based on innovation activities carried out between 2018 and 2020 in the manufacturing and services sector.
Innovation has an important role in the economic development of countries. The Twelfth Malaysia Plan 2021-2025 (12MP) stated that accelerating technology adoption and innovation as one of the Plan’s four policy enablers. The Plan further that 50% of all Government research funding would be allocated to encourage experimental development that had a high commercialisation potential.
The statistics and trends reported in this study will provide valuable, current information on innovation activities in Malaysia that will be useful to policy makers, the private sector and the general public. The study's findings can also be used by government research institutions, higher education institutions and specialised researchers for further analysis and study.
