A Delphi Study On Malaysia Blockchain Technology Landscape In The Year 2040 (2018)
Objective:
To assess the future potential and impact of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and Blockchain on Malaysia’s economic and social landscape leading up to 2040. This study aims to identify trends, focus sectors, and key issues for the development of this technology in Malaysia.
Methodology:
This study utilized the Delphi method, conducted in two rounds. It involved a panel of experts from various fields such as law, finance, ICT, academia, entrepreneurship, and policymaking to achieve a consensus on the potential of Blockchain.
Key Findings:
- The sectors identified as most likely to be impacted by Blockchain are Financial Services (36%), followed by Public Services (16%), ICT (11%), Trade and Logistics (10%), and Healthcare (8%).
- Key challenges identified include issues related to government (policy, regulations), economy (ecosystem, funding), society (talent shortage, awareness), technology (legacy systems, interoperability), and legal (regulatory uncertainty).
- The report recommends that the government provide strategic focus on five main sectors within a 3-5 year period: finance, trade & logistics, energy, public services, and healthcare.
