National Technology Foresight 2010
Objective:
To identify technology priorities and guide strategic investments to drive Malaysia towards a high-income, innovation-led economy by 2020. This was the first national-level foresight initiative undertaken.
Methodology:
The study used a diverse and comprehensive approach, including STEEP Analysis, Patent Analysis, Online Surveys, Expert Panels, Scenario Planning, and the Delphi method to gather and analyze data.
Key Findings:
Five key recommendations for the National S&T Strategy were identified as the core of the nation’s technological development:
- Key Industrial Technologies
- Emerging and Converging Technologies
- National Issues Related Technologies
- Global Issues Related Technologies
- Government-Led Technologies
Recommended priority technology areas include Advanced Manufacturing, Environmental Management, Future Energy, Medical and Healthcare, Biotechnology, and ICT.
The report also outlines policy recommendations to strengthen research, human capital development, and the collaborative mechanisms between government, industry players, and academics.
