International Workshop on “Patenting for Economic Growth: Opportunities and Challenges”
The potential of patents to drive technological progress and economic prosperity in the Global South cannot be underestimated. Beyond safeguarding intellectual property, patents promote innovation by providing inventors the assurance to invest in research and development and in turn, drive technological advancements that benefit the society at large.
Moreover, patents play a crucial role in drawing investments from both domestic and international sources. Investors are often attracted to regions with intellectual property right protections, as this ensures return on investment and fosters a beneficial business environment. Also, patents encourage collaboration between academia, industry and government sectors, promoting knowledge exchange and the development of practical applications for innovative ideas.
It is against this backdrop that the Centre for Science and Technology of the Non-Aligned and Other Developing Countries (NAM S&T Centre), New Delhi in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science & Technology, Phoenix, Republic of Mauritius is organizing an International Workshop on ‘Patenting for Economic Growth: Opportunities and Challenges’ during October 24-25, 2024.
