Introduction

The Malaysian Science and Technology Information Centre (MASTIC) was established in 1992 under the “Industrial Technology Development: A National Plan of Action”. MASTIC is a division under the Ministry of Science, Technology & Innovation (MOSTI).

Vision

To be the national primary reference centre for strategic Science, Technology & Innovation (STI) information.

Mission

To provide reliable, up-to-date and comprehensive STI information through efficient information management system to facilitate the National STI Policies.

Objectives

  • Provides repository for strategic STI information to facilitate S&T communities’ needs through good knowledge management practice.
  • Provides platform for sharing of STI information among government and private sectors and inputs to the development of National STI policy.
  • MASTIC’s Website version 3 is created.
  • The MOSTI Integrated Library System Library (VTLS) was converted to a new system, the KOHA System, which uses open source software.

Nov 2019 – The MOSTI Information Repository System has been developed in-house by team from Information Technology Management Division and MASTIC. In June 2020 the system is ready to be accessed by MOSTI headquarters officers can. The main purpose of develop a system as a platform to keep all the reference materials related to MOSTI in digital form.

  • 29 November 2011 – 2010 R&D Study Kick-off Ceremony.
  • 29 November 2011 – KRSTE.my Launch Ceremony.
  • 1 April 2010 – MASTIC Retreat at Legend Hotel, Port Dickson Negeri Sembilan.
  • 12 Mei 2010 – Malaysia Research and Development Classification System Document Update Retreat at Pulai Spring Resort, Johor.
  • 13 Mei 2010 – The Atlas Of Islamic-World Science & Innovation workshop at Crystal Crown, Petaling Jaya.
  • 17  Mei 2010 – The Atlas Of Islamic-World Science & Innovation workshop at UTM, Skudai.
  • 8 Jun 2010 – Honorable visit by Royal Professor Ungku Aziz Ungku Abdul Hamid for The Atlas Of Islamic-World Science & Innovation project.
  • 5 September 2010 – MASTIC Role and Direction Functional Management Retreat at Grand Bluewave, Shah Alam.
  • 2010 –KRSTE.my R3 is introduced.
  • Development of a mirror site for Science Links Japan.
  • Improvement of the library system from ILMU to VTLS.
  • Updating the MS ISO 9001:2008 certificate.
  • The first S&T Expert Directory book produced.
  • 4 May 2006 – MASTIC Quality Management System Improvement Retreat in 2006 at Century Hotel Mahkota Melaka.
  • 13 August 2006 – Fifth Edition R&D Classification Update Workshop at Swiss Garden Resort & SPA, Kuantan.
  • Development of Phase 2 & 3 of the KRSTE.my System.
  • Insights@MASTIC is introduced.
  • The first Bibliometric Seminar was held.
  • April – Phase 1 Development of the KRSTE.my System.
  • A CD and a column on the portal about Malaysia S&T Incentives were produced.
  • The National Bibliometric Study was conducted to lay the foundation for creating a national bibliometric database required for strategic planning of S&T development of the country.
  • A CD and a column on the portal about Malaysia S&T Incentives were produced.
  • Online R&D is introduced.
  • MS ISO 9001:2000 ISO Update Workshop.
  • The ILMU system began to be used for library services.
  • MASTIC’s new portal is created.
  • MASTIC’s move to Putrajaya.
  • 1st CO-EXIST-SEA organized by MASTIC together with Japan Science and Technology (JST).
  • Received MS ISO 9002:1994 Accreditation from MAMPU.
  • The Launching Ceremony of the Malaysian Science & Technology Information Centre by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia YAB Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

  • The MASTIC website was created.
  • The National Innovation Survey represents the findings of the first national survey of innovation in Malaysian industry carried out for year 1994.

  • The first National R&D Survey report is published.
  • The National Survey of Research and Development (R&D) provide information on the status of R&D resources and activities in Malaysia for financial year 1994.
  • The first MASTIC Newsletter is published.
  • The first Public Awareness Survey report is published.
