e-Survia: A Fuzzy Based Web Survey Tool

Fuzzy conjoint analysis employed a Likert-scale to represent linguistic terms. eSurvia provides a web-based system application to allow surveyors to create their own survey questions and respondent participate in the survey on the Internet. The uniqueness of this web application is that it uses fuzzy conjoint analysis to process and analyse the survey data, instead of using traditional statistical methods. So far, top the best of our knowledge, there has been no web-based survey with fuzzy conjoint analysis application on the web. This web-based survey will ease the distribution of the survey and its automatic data analysis will assist the researcher to get meaningful results.

An Empirical Assessment of Business Cycle Asymmetries: Evidence from Malaysia

In this paper, we tested three types of asymmetry of business cycles: steepness, deepness and sharpness, using the parametric tests of Clements and Krolzig (2003), based on Markov-Switching autoregressive models in the real GDP of Malaysia for the period from 1975Q1 to 2006Q4. This study used three different approaches to remove trend component of GDP to investigate the sensitivity of the findings of asymmetries to the method of trend eliminations. Finally, for comparison, the non-parametric test of Randles et al. (1980) was also employed. We found a strong evidence of steep asymmetry but not deep sharp asymmetry for Malaysia which is in contrast to the findings of Khong and Lau (2007) and Eng and Wang (2008).

Optimizing the Process Parameters for a Successful Carbon Nanotubes Production and its Application in Skim Latex Protein Purification

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been successfully synthesized by using Double Stage Chemical Vapor Deposition (DS-CVD) technique, using acetylene (C2H2) and hydrogen (H2) as teh precursor gases. The morphology and the structure of CNTs were then characterized using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) , Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA). The effect of the process parameters were investigated whereby the experimental design of the investigation was conducted using Design Expert Version 6.0. The statistical analysis reveals that the optimized conditions for the best CNTs production is at 850C reaction temperature, 60 min reaction time, with gases flow rates at 40 and 150 ml/min for C2H2 and H2 respectively. CNTs produced were used as column chromatographic media. Due to its nano-sized structured dimension, CNTs has tremendously large surface area and that lead to highly efficient protein purification.
