IN-SITU TECHNIQUE FOR PAPER MAKING

Kertas percetakan yang menggunakan batu kapur bergred tinggi sebgagai bahan pengisi merupakn satu kaedah biasa yang diamalkan oleh pengamal industri kertas. Namun begitu, penyelidikan ini telah membuka satu lagi peluang penggunaan batu kapur yang lebih meluar apabila pelbagai gred boleh digunakan. Melalui penyelidikan ini, kertas cetak telah berjaya dihasilkan dengan menggunakan kaedah in-situ yang menggabungkan dua (2) proses utama iaitu penghasilan kalsium karbonat termendak dan pemendakannya ke atas pulpa untuk menghasilan kertas berlaku secara serentak. Teknik ini juga berjaya menyelesaikan masalah sisa buangan berjadual dari industri gas asitilena yang boleh digunakan dalam penghasilan kertas. Sisa buangan gas karbon dioksida juga boleh dimanfaatkan bagi menghasilkan produk kertas. Secra tidak langsung penyelidikan ini boleh dikategorikan sebgai teknolog hijau.

Project 3 'S' System is based on smart, security and safety concepts to overcome robbery at gold shops. During robbery, the robber will try to break the glass to take the gold. The sensor then will detect the vibration on the glass surface and the signal will be transmitted to a microcontroller. Then, the microcontroller will activate 4 actions: rotate the gold display board upside down so that all jewelry/gold will fall into a safety box, activate the emergency light and siren, activate the CCTV to record the scene and send SMS to the owner and police station through handphones.

RESIN-IMPREGNATED OIL PALM FLOORING

The impregnated oil palm flooring is produced by combining the resin and fibre using pressure vessel. Through combination of thermo-set resin at different loading, curing time and optimized densification process, the oil palm trunks were transformed into reinforced palm flooring. The palm flooring has been tested and passed fro flooring application through rigorous technical requirement tests such as ultraviolet coating performance, hardness brinell, cross harch and removal, impact and scratch resistance, abrasion resistance, cold syclic test and biologocal test. The resin impregnated oil palm flooring with has properties equivalent to wood for specific application such as flooring, will do well complement timber products and will be accepted in the flooring market.

Program Pembangunan Produk Herba (PPH)

Program Pembangunan Produk Herba (PPH) telah ditubuhkan pada 2010 dan mempunyai 3 makmal yang menjalankan penyelidikan dan pembangunan berkaitan tumbuhan ubatan dan beraroma iaitu; Makmal Teknologi Minyak Pati (TMP), Makmal Formulasi Produk (FP) dan Makmal Kawalan Kualiti (NPQC). Ketiga-tiga makmal ini merupakan makmal di bawah status BioNexus Partnership. Antara aktiviti penyelidikan yang dijalankan di TMP adalah penyulingan minyak pati dan pengekstrakan tumbuhan (pelarut dan CO2), analisis kimia menggunakan GC, GCMS dan HS-SPME. Manakala FP pula bertanggungjawab memformulasi produk prototaip berasaskan herba dan NPQC menjalankan ujian kawalan kualiti bagi memastikan aspek keselamatan dalam penghasilan produk herba. Pada 2012, NPQC telah diakreditasikan sebagai makmal kawalan kualiti di bawah piawaian MS ISO/IEC 17025 oleh Jabatan Standard Malaysia (DSM). Hasil penyelidikan PPH telah memenangi pelbahai anugerah di peringkat kebangsaan dan antarabangsa.

Producing Pulp & Paper from the Kenaf Stalk

In Malaysia, kenaf was only introduced recently. Kenaf stem consists of two distinct parts, the long fibre bast and the short fibre core; and both have different chemical compositions. Due to differences in fibre length and chemical properties, they are not recommended to be pulped together. Separation of bast from the core in the pulping line will increase the production cost. Studies based on locally available kenaf for pulp and paper production are still limited.

Current practice for disposal are mainly landfill, may not be viable in the long run as land cost is becoming more expensive. Recycling in mill for enegy generation is far beyond the reach of small capacity mills. A cost effective and enviromentally safe procedure for reutilization of these waste was developed. Organic soil is produces through biological, chemical and physical degradation processes of PMS prior mixed with organic fibres and naturally occuring microbes. The end product can be used as potting media, organic fertilizer or amelioration of infertile and poor drained soils.

Intelligent Method Of Fragrant Quality Assessment Of Agarwood Oils and Products

Agarwood oils are commonly extracted from low grade agarwood chips which are usually processed via distillation. They can be obtained from various aquilaria species such as A. Malaccensis,A.Hirta and A. Crassna. This viscous oil is called as pure agarwood essential oil (100% of extracted material)and pureness is one of key aspect taken into consideration for its price. The blending of a small amount of this precious agarwood oil with other essential oils such as Geranium,Sandalwood, Gurjum Balsam, Jasmine and Ylang Ylang can give rich, complex and pleasant oils. Agarwood oil acts as a base note to fix the perfume odour comprising of middle and top notes. Currently, there is no scientific technique used to differentiate pure and mixture agarwood oils and usually, it is based on traders and buyers agreement that may leads to inconsistencies. The present invention provides a method for classifying the fragrance quality of agarwood oils according to its odour quality into two separate groups pure and mixture using electronic nose coupled with a modified k-th nearest neighbour k-fold cross validation technique and substantial information from chemical constituent analysis using GCMS. This invention anticipated to help the agarwood industries in order to support their products with scientific evident.
