Self-Assessment Sustainability Practice Scorecard (SSPs)

This project aims to provide corporations with an easy-to-use and user-friendly mechanism for measuring and evaluating their sustainable practices. A scorecard has been developed based on empirical investigations of the current business sustainable practices in Malaysia. The scorecard is a self-assesment mechanism which offers a practical guide for companies in Malaysia to determine their level of sustainability practices in three dimensions: economic, social and enviroment. An interpretation of current corporate sustainble practices is also offered; which provides invaluable recommendations for improvement. Overall, the significant contribution of the corporate sustainability scorecard is to promote and encourage a self-evaluation practice towards good corporate governance and accountability. In comparison with other similar sustainablity evaluation mechanism (e.g. Global Reporting Initatives (GRI), ISO guidelines), the additional features of the scorecard (next-step direction and recommendations) will offer high potential for commercialisation.

S3RG1: Segmentation Platform For Mammography Image Analysis

A segmentation platform for mammography image analysis called S3RG1 is developed in order to detect breast abnormalities. The S3RG1 software consists of 3 segmentation methods based on the active contour or snake model (Balloon snake, GVF snake and EDAC) and 1 based on the region growing model called automatic seed-based region growing model. The results obtained show that the boundaries of abnormalities were successful segmented using these methods in the S3RG1 software.

RainChemPro merupakan sebuah aplikasi pembelajaran kimia interaktif. Ia direka secara interaktif, kreatif dan berwarna-warni. Aplikasi ini dibuat menggunakan pengatucaraan Asas Visual yang mengandungi lebih 80 peratus kandungan bewarna termasuk gambar, jadual, video dan perkataan yang dapat membantu pelajar memahami, mengingati konsep asas dalam kimia serta mengelakkan pelajar daripada cepat bosan. RainChemPro V2.0 merupakan aplikasi pembelajaran kimia interaktif yang dibina khususnya kepada pelajar Tingkatan 4 yang mengambil subjek kimia. RCP V2.0 yang telah siap ini adalah pada fasa pertama dalam bahasa melayu. Kandungan yang terdapat dalam aplikasi ini adalah mengikut sukatan daripada kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia, bagi memastikan Kandungan yang dipelajari dalam aplikasi ini adalah sama dengan pembelajaran didalam kelas. Pembinaan aplikasi ini juga turut dipantau oleh beberapa orang guru-guru kimia dan juga pensyarah bagi memastikan aplikasi ini mencapai Tahap yang maksimum kepada pelajar. Aplikasi yang interaktif ini dapat memberi satu gambaran baru kepada pelajar dimana subjek kimia bukan subjek yang sukar untuk difahami tetapi ia adalah subjek yang menarik dan mudah. SweetSmile: An Interactive Multimedia that Educates Preschoolers to Practice a Good Oral Hygiene Habit

In order to educate pre-schoolers to practice good oral hygiene, SweetSmile Multimedia Application was developed. Using this interactive application, the children will be more excited and enthusiastic to learn about oral hygiene as it comes with colors, songs, animations, graphics and videos. The first section teaches children how to brush their teeth properly, the second informs about healthy food for teeth, and the third offers activities to strengthen childrens understanding through guessing games.

Multi-Parametric Pectin Lyase-Like Protein Function Classifier

Background:
Determining the functions of Pectin Lyase-like (PLL) proteins from sequences remains a challenge despite the growth of numerous prediction methods. This is due to random variation of the amino acid sequence in Pectin Lyase-Like (PLL) proteins in different organisms that make it difficult for the program to identify it from sequence alone. Besides that, the nature of the inherent limitations of current tools and databases contribute to the protein classification problem. A new method for the classification of PLL is designed based on Rough Sets algorithm for features reduction and Support Vector Machine for classification called Multi-Parametric Protein Function Classification (MP_ProFunC), that scarcely used in functional genomics. Twenty amino acid compositions and thirteen physicochemical properties data are used as conditional attributes for the classification prototype.

Micro-calcification Segmentation on Green Computing System

Distributed Parallel Computing System (DCPS) is currently used widely in many applications of complex problems involving high computations. This is because it has the capability to process computations. This is because it has the capability to process computations efficiently using a parallel scheme. ARS DPCS is a green computing system which is developed using used processors. it has been succesfully implemented processing full-filed digital mammograms. In this system two clusters which are ARS1 and ARS2 consisting of 16 processors are used to compute the large system of mathematical equations. These processors are used to communicate via the Ethernet metwork using Open Source LINUX Fedora 7 as the operating system and Matlab Distributed Computing Server (MDCS) as a platform to process the digital mammograms. in this project the DAC algorithm is used in segmenting the boundaries of microcalcifications iin the mammograms. The DAC requires long computational time in completing the segmentation process. Hence, a parallel algorithm is adopted to overcome this problem using the ARS DPCS. Experimental results obtained show that the ARS DPCS successfully reduce the processing time. In addition, the boundaries of microcalcifications are successfully segmented. this system can be extended to other segmentation methods and other applications.

Lecturer's Evaluation Online (LEO) Zero Cost, Waste, Process, Time, HR

LEO is an online system to evaluate lecturer's quality assurance and performance, complementing teaching and learning or training management system. Since the University's establishment, the use of manual questionnaire and later, OMR based questionnaire have been utilized as a process for quality assurance and enhancement. This has taken mush time, humah resource and financial support in order to complete the process of printing questionnaire, distributing, collecting, keying in, analyzing and distributing result to the lecturers. LEO has been the best solution which saved very much in terms of time, nearly no human resource and very less financial needs. The system may be logged on by students according to their course and lecturer anytime at the end of every semester, auto-analyzed and can be viewed, downloaded and printed by the lecturer for result at any time. To conclude, it is a solution with zero-error in keying in or analyzing data. it can be update without wasting unused blank questionnaire and the use of OMR machine.

Interactive ParameterEstimator (iPE) is an interface to facilitate the implementation of the Fuzzy State Space Algorithm that addresses inverse problems in multivariate control system directly; compared to repeated simulation of forward problems. The algorithm provides a fast and simple way of incorporating uncertainties and expert knowledge and able to handle ill-conditioned or ill-posed problems that normally occur in complex systems. to take advantage of these distinguish features of the algorithm, a GUI is developed and implemented to a furnace system of combined cycle power plant. Besides providing an efficient computation for estimating the optimal combination of the parameters, iPE is an innovative tool for decision-makers. it is beneficial as an engineering support system or a teaching tool in control system modelling.

Halal Certification Information System (HCIS)

Halal is no longer just purely religious issue, but it is also becoming a global symbol for quality assurance and lifestyle. Therefore, Halal Certification is known to be a recognition documents in determining whether the products are permissible for consumption of Muslims under Islamic Law. It contains information such as company's name, product offered, date certified, date issued and expired. Halal Certification Information System (HCIS) is a system that capable to detect the validity of the information displayed in the Halal Certification. It uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, where a PDA will scan the RFID tag embedded on the Halal Certificate and validate the unique code with the main database. HCIS is a new solution in monitoring and protecting against the misuse of Halal Certification. CET-RAMP (Comprehensive Evaluation Tool For Ramp Design)

This new CET-Ramp model has been developed under extensive research methodology based on the established theory of traffic engineering disciplines. The goal of the model is to comprehensively evaluate and monitor the performance of the urban expressway towards addressing the efficiency of the expressway ramp junctions. It identifies the performance index of urban expressway exit and entry ramp junctions at both the diverging and merging sections, which remain unidentified in the conventional approach in the existing guidelines and standards. Several multiple linear regression models were succesfully developed , calibrated and vaidated. Research works on the Comprehensive Evaluation Tool for Ramp Design (CET-Ramp) have been presented at a national ministerial level technical meeting on interurban expressway. the outcome of the product is to enhance and maximize accessibility and increase safety indices for urban expressway users.

SSMSS - School's Student Management System

The study was carried out in order to implement online database management system to cater student's records in schools in Pahang. The prototype of School's Student Management System (SSMSS) is built using the MySQL relation databse, together with PHP and Apache Web server. Among the benefits of SSMSS are; it could support multi-user simultaneously and facilitate quick response to queries, updates and reports. The web-based applications have made the SSMSS accessible to users in dispersed locations where it can be easily accessed by users via the Internet. Therefoe, the use of SSMSS has promotes more effective and efficient information sharing, record management and communications between teachers, students as well as parents. This new phenomenon will bring the concept where students' records would be no more content to the school's district. This new technology also would help the advancement of information technologies and communications in rural areas such in Jengka, Pahang. Future work will involve the collaboration with Ministry of Education (MOE) to enhance the features in SSMSS and to promote the use of SSMSS in schools around rural areas in Malaysia.
