Mg Sys-VISI is a voice recognition browser for the visually impaired,to browse the Internet, read and send mail, print articles in Braille, and convert Braille back to text. Mg Sys.-VISI is tehrefore able to convert text codes to voice,from voice to Braille and then back to text. Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Computerized Data Management System for Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program

The universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS) program started in UKM Medical Centre since April 2003 till now. More than 35,000 newborn were screened for hearing loss using portable otoacoustic emission (OAE) before they discharge. The joint Committee on Infant Hearing (JCIH) year 2000 position statement recommends some quality indicators for UNHS which include achieving a screening rate of at least 95% within 6 months of program initiation, referral rate to no greater than 4% and achieving return for follow up rate of at least 70%. After the first stage hearing test perform by the staff nurse, the result from test can be kept in quickly and efficiently. Babies who fail the first stage screening test will be given the appointment date by the staff nurse without calling the ORL Clinic officer. Those failed screening test need to come for follow up with Automated Brain stem evoked response(AABR) at 6 week of life.During this stage the Assistant lab officer will keep in the result.At the same day the baby will go for brain stem evoked response if they failed the AABR test.

Transliteration Engine for Jawi to Rumi

Jawi is a writing system that is adapted fom Arabic characters for writing Malay language. The usage of Jawi script in writing has been disregarded particularly since the Roman script is used as the official script in Malay language. Since, then contents that are written in Jawi, especially in the Internet, are scarce. The smart way to escalate contents in Jawi is by assisting the transliteration process of digital documents, i.e. web pages that are in Roman script, to Jawi script.However, the fact is that there is no system that can do the job including the well-known Google translation engine. Hence, building a Rumi to Jawi transliteration engine for web pages is a way to create Jawi contents and to rejuvenate the usage of Jawi script by using the information technology. We developed the Transliterasi Engine for RUmi to JAwi (TERUJA) in a form of web services that can transliterate any web pages that is in Malay Roman script to Jawi script without changing the original web page layout. The Development and the Evaluation of a Web Based Career Interest System for Malaysian Youth ( is a Web based Career Interest Exploration system for Malaysian users (Student, job seekers, counselors, parents and employers).it was developed using PHP and MySQL Database and run under Apache 2.0 Web Server. All the questions, answers and survey results are stored in MySQL database and system logic and calculation are done by PHP. The system must be accessed using web browser such as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and others. This system requires user to register before entering the system by filling in his/her name and relevant particulars, login name and password. The system is secured with login page to avoid unauthorized user using the system and the spamming. Once entering the system, user will be provided with menus to take the test, edit profile or view results. User is allowed to take as many as test possible. All the test results is stored and can be view at view result page. The current Xplorasi system has 18 equation pages and each page has 10 questions. If there is any problem during answering the question, the system will force to logout and user needs to re-login and the system will bring back the page where the user previously answer the page. The system also displays time duration of answering the question. After completing the questions, user will be provided all results with tables and graphs. At the result page, there is a button where user can answer simple survey about the system.

The Agent Based Rough Set Data Mining Tool

ROUGHAGENT TM proposes a new agent based approach in rough set classification theory with a default rule generation framework. ROUGHAGENT is a data mining tool that have the combination two basic theories that are :
1. the theory of agent in rough set
2. the theory of agent in the default rules generation framework.
Rough set is one of data mining techniques for classification. It generates rules from large database and it has mechanism to handle noise and uncertainty in data. However, to produce a rough classification model or rough classifier is highly computational especially in its reduct computation phase which is an NP=hard problem. This drawback has contributed to the generation of large amount of rules and lengthy processing time. To resolve the problem, an agent is embedded within a rough classifier framework specifically the Rough Set Default Rules Generation Framework (DRGF). In this research project, an agent is created within the main rough set modeling processes such as reduct computation, rules generation and attribute projections. Four main agents are introduced ROUGHAGENT i.e interaction agent, weighted agent, reduction agent and default agent.

Stacked Folded Patch Feed Antenna for Ultrawideband Application

A new stacked patch antenna with a folded patch feed is invented for ultrawideband (UWB) applications. The bandwidth is obtained by a stacked patch fed with a folded patch feed, and the size reduction is realized through the use of shorting wall. The antenna occupies a compact dimension of 15 15 10 mm3. The proposed antenna exhibits impedance bandwidth of 90% for -10dB return loss (VSWR<=2). Details of the antenna design and the results with low-profile characteristics make this invented antenna suitable for UWB applications.

Semantik-i: An Engine for Semantic Annotation & Search of Images

The important proliferation of digital multimedia content requires tools for extracting useful knowledge from the content to enable intelligent and efficient multimedia organization, filtering and retrieval. Vast amount of images are now available as digital format and many of them are being described either directly or indirectly by some textual information. We proposed an approach and demonstrated by a tool called Semantik-i. Semantic-i is a semantic engine for automatic annotation and search of images with description. Semantic search uses the science of meaning in language-instead of just searching for keywords; it checks the context of the words to return more relevant results. The aim of this engine is to extract the who, what, when and where information from the textual description which represent the images. In a broader sense, the idea is to extract semantic meanings of images based from the free (unstructured) textual description and subsequently constructs the semantic index. In our approach we employ the Named Entity Recognition (NER) technique and exploit the WordNet and ConceptNet lexical ontologies. NER plays an important role in extracting the information about person, location and time of the textual description. WordNet and ConceptNet on the other hand are used to semantically enhance the index of the stored images. The main purpose is to semantically index images beyond the terms provided in the attached textual description. Testing on 800 on-line newspaper images shows that our approach outperformed the conventional approaches of searching for images.

Optimization for the Production of Seafood Flavor from Cockle (Andara Granosa) Meat Wash Water Precipitate

Cockle (Anadara granosa) meat wash water which has been used through this experiment was hydrolyzed using enzyme, namely bromelain. Experiments were carried out to elucidate the optimum condition for different factors which were temperature, enzyme concentration and incubation time using response surface methodology (RSM) based on a central composite rotatable design (CCRD). Results revealed that the optimum values for temperature, enzyme concentration and incubation time were found to be 33.73??C, 1.45% (E/S) and 28.42h, respectively. Based on the results, hydrolysis of cockles meat wash water precipitate was carried out by washing 500g cockles??? meat in 1000ml of distilled water for 30 min at 600rpm. Subsequently, precipitation of the washed samples was conducted at pH 4. Enzymatic hydrolysis of cockle meat wash water precipitate using bromelain resulted in nitrogen content (NC) of 0.61% and degree of hydrolysis (DH) of 48.4% under optimized conditions. 3-methyl-butanol and 1-pentanol are the major flavor compounds detected using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS).

The model generator provides features for automatically cleaning data, preprocessing and rebuild the knowledge model for additional new data. Most current data mining tools are only able to develop a model knowledge. The next biggest challenge for the data mining user is to develop a workable data mining application using the model. The common practice is to handle this in-house or to outsource the task of developing such as system. The application generator is able to generator is able to generated earlier, either as a separate excutable standalone application or run as a web-based application. Mynda also provides a system management component. This component is used to manage Mynda's user profiles and manage Mynda's functionality for the users. Mynda resolves complex, time consuming processes and reduce costs in building knowledge model, and gererates data mining applications and associated reports.

MyJawi Game is educational game software based on a Malay folk tale for promoting Jawi literacy. This edutainment software was developed for early reading literacy in Jawi, targeted for preschool children. To ensure that the software meets users??? gaming need for fun and motivation, and instructional effectiveness, the design of the software integrated the early reading and learning theories, motivation and game play theories, game design and instructional design. The game was based on the story of Awang Miskin, a poor orphan who wanted to seek knowledge. The game play is about players helping the character (Awang) throughout his journey to seek knowledge, in the case learning how to read and write Jawi. The elements of game motivation such as clear objectives, game level matching player???s learning ability, power to control the game, clear and immediate feedback, fantasy and curiosity ensure that this edutainment software will provide a balance between entertainment and education.

Hybrid e_Marketplace Framework for Wood Based Products Industry

Rapid growth and expansion of information and communication technology (ICT) have set the pace for an electronic revolution leading to adoption of e-marketplace within the small and medium enterprise (SMEs). Locally, this growth in ICT promises to further bolster the SME???s position as the engine of growth for the Malaysia economy. However, there are various challenges and issues in setting up an e-marketplace in developing countries which appear to impede the growth of e-marketplace. In this work, the realities of e-business adoption in Malaysian wood based products industry are discussed. This leads to the proposal of a hybrid e-marketplace framework. This framework integrates different types of mechanisms comprise of a third-party intermediary portal, mobile agent-based multi-attribute reverse auction and an e-negotiation feature that incorporates the use of the short messaging system service. The architecture???s uniqueness three abstraction layers that deploy SMS and mobile agent technology. High Gain Dual Band Antenna for RFID Reader Applications

A novel design of high gain dual band antenna covering 2.45/5.8 GHz ISM bands of is proposed for radio frequency identification (RFID) reader application in this invention. The antenna is composed of a U-shaped copper strip with unequal arm to feed the antenna, a rectangular ring printed on a superstrate and the ground plane. The use of the U-shaped strip as a new feeding technique for microstrip patch antennas with relatively thin substrate. The antenna is comprised with air of thickness 5mm as the substrate. A good impedance bandwidth of 130 MHz has been achieved form 2.36GHz to 2.49GHz for the lower band, while the upper band covers 390 MHz (from 5.49GHz to 5.88GHz). The U-shaped feeding strip excites the rectangular ring effectively by providing a good impedance matching with over 96% of radiation efficiency in both the frequency bands and also maximum gain of 9.03dBi and 10.14dBi is achieved in the lower and higher frequency band, respectively in this invention.

Optical diagnosis, performance monitoring,and characterization are essential for achieving high performance and ensuring high quality of services (QoS) of any efficient and reliable optical access network. In fact, an efficient and reliable optical network, such as passive optical network (PON), depends on appropriate testing and measurement. We proposed an efficient optical monitoring and management system tool named Smart Access Network_Testing, Analyzing and Database (SANTAD) for providing remote controlling, optical monitoring, fault detection and protection switching features to assist the networks operator to manage the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) more efficiency. SANTAD is a centralized access control and surveillance system that enables the network operators and field engineers to view traffic flow and detect breakdown as well as other circumstances that may require some appropriate action with the graphical user interface (GUI) processing capabilities of Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 (VB9) programming. SANTAD combines centralized network monitoring and troubleshooting, failure analyzing and survivability capabilities apparatus to deliver high Qos.Optical time domain reflcetometer (otdr) with 1625nm laser light is used for failure detection control and in-service troubleshooting.
